The exhibition products are classified according to the three dimensions of "innovation, domestic substitution, and clinical urgency". They adopt the form of "clinical application scenario experience + innovative product physical display", covering ICU, cardiovascular, oncology, neurology, surgery, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and Beijing's "7 + 1" exhibition area. By introducing technologies such as artificial intelligence guides and telemedicine, it replicates ICU, operating rooms, and other typical clinical scenarios in a 1:1 ratio, allowing users to deeply understand the precise performance and actual compatibility of the products. This promotes the transformation of the exhibition viewing model towards an in-depth experience.
Training Empowerment: Building a "Production-Use Linkage" Training Base
The Exchange Center has established a high-end medical equipment promotion, practical training and demonstration base, which includes a training and education center covering modules such as simulated operating rooms, theoretical teaching areas, and procedural training zones. Targeting clinical medical staff and medical device inspectors, it aims to enhance the standardized usage and regulatory operational capabilities of high-end medical devices. The annual training capacity can reach over ten thousand people.
The Exchange Center will collaborate with domestic and international regulatory agencies, industry associations, clinical hospitals, research institutions, universities, and others to digitally and intelligently gather all lifecycle ecological elements such as government, industry, academia, research, application, finance, medicine, exhibition, sales, training, and media, constructing a comprehensive innovation ecosystem for the medical device industry. Relying on the Beijing Service Station for Medical Device Innovation of the National Medical Products Administration's Center for Device Review and the Beijing Service Station for Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Innovation, it will focus on the research, development, and market entry of innovative medical devices. It will provide enterprises with services in six key areas including personnel training, customized consultation, and pre-assessment review, while offering follow-up services for key projects through timely follow-ups, dedicated guidance, and regular communication.
The Exchange Center has simultaneously built the "Global Medical Device Cooperation Platform," establishing cooperation mechanisms with countries along the "Belt and Road" for mutual recognition of standards, market access, and joint testing. Measures such as bilingual Chinese-English exhibition displays, hosting International Buyers Day, and special negotiation events for overseas medical groups have been implemented to help companies build stable export channels.
Beijing is rich in clinical resources, has a strong foundation in basic research, and enjoys a favorable policy environment for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, giving it an advantage in developing the medical device industry. In August 2024, Beijing released the "Beijing Work Plan for Further Optimizing the Full-process Service of Innovative Medical Devices," which accelerates the clinical application of products by implementing a "project-based" management model, clarifying the responsibilities of various departments in preclinical research and development, clinical studies, evaluation and approval, industrial implementation, and hospital applications. By the end of 2024, Beijing had 7,023 second-class and 2,628 third-class medical device registrations, ranking among the top in the country. In the past five years, Beijing has approved 58 innovative medical devices, accounting for one-quarter of the national total, ranking first in the country.
Changping District, as a new town and science and education new area of Beijing, is not only an ecological barrier in the northwest of the capital, but also an important platform for the national science and technology innovation center. By 2024, the number of medical device companies above designated size in Changping District has reached 99, with annual output value reaching 14.45 billion yuan. Particularly in the field of high-end medical devices, it has formed a complete industrial chain from basic research, pilot development, production and circulation to terminal medical services, becoming an innovative engine for the development of the medical device industry in Beijing and even the whole country. The landing and operation of the exchange center will further strengthen the polymerization effect of Changping's medical device industry.
Changping District is actively seizing the high-end medical device track, implementing the "Thumbtack" Action Plan, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as brain-computer interfaces, and building a "132" industrial system supported by 1 cutting-edge industry, 3 advantageous industries (in vitro diagnostics, implantable and interventional devices, and medical aesthetics devices), and 2 distinctive industries (high-end diagnostic and treatment equipment and biomedical materials) to comprehensively accelerate the cluster development of high-end medical devices. By the end of 2024, Changping District's medical device sector comprises 148 national high-tech enterprises, 78 specialized and sophisticated enterprises, and 9 listed companies. To date, Changping District's enterprises have cumulatively received approval for 30 national innovative medical devices, accounting for 38% of the city's total and 8.5% of the national total.
Guided by the National Medical Products Administration and the Beijing Municipal Government, Changping adheres to innovation-driven development, further advancing the construction of "Life Valley" centered around Zhongguan Village Life Science Park. Under the leadership of the "Big Nail" initiative, efforts are being made to accelerate the establishment of a high-end medical device industry cluster with Changping characteristics — the International Medical Device City. The total construction area of the project is approximately 1.2 million square meters, with about 430,000 square meters in the eastern zone already in operation. Construction has also begun in the western zone and is proceeding steadily. Currently, several leading enterprises have gathered here, forming a demonstrative, benchmark, and exemplary medical device industry development "Changping Model."
Relying on professional platforms such as Gaobo Hospital, MedEquip Future Center, and Changke Huaguang, Changping has established a multi-party collaborative mechanism involving the government, industry, academia, research, and users. As of 2024, Changping District has cumulatively obtained 539 Class III medical device registration certificates and 30 innovative medical device products, accounting for 39.7% of Beijing's total and 9.1% of the national total, becoming an "accelerator" for promoting the rapid implementation of innovative achievements.
The Exchange Center is not only a display platform, but also the "central neural node" and strategic highland of China's medical device industry. In the next five years, the center will focus on the entire life cycle of medical devices, providing comprehensive services such as policy consultation, medical-engineering collaboration, clinical access, supply chain cooperation, exhibition promotion, international outreach, and financial services. It aims to fully empower enterprises in innovative development.
The Exchange Center will build a collaborative network that radiates across the country and connects globally in phases, attracting 100 top enterprises to settle in and achieving full coverage of "seven major departments + Beijing exhibition area", realizing the normalized operation of the exhibition area for 365 days a year, launching the "cloud exhibition" system, providing reservation visits and cross-time zone services to meet the diversified exhibition viewing needs of global audiences.
